Marianne completed her Master’s studies in molecular biology with a focus on immunology at the University of Basel. She earned her PhD in mucosal immunology from the University of Zürich, where her research focused on immune-tissue interactions in the context of inflammatory bowel diseases. After a postdoctoral fellowship in the same lab, she joined Prof. Declan McCole's team at the University of California, Riverside, where she advanced her knowledge of epithelial cell physiology, pathogen-host interactions, and macrophage-tissue interactions. Upon returning to the University of Zürich’s Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Marianne continued her research on immune cell-tissue interactions in the intestine. During this time, Marianne developed her passion for immune cell – tissue interactions in general and the implication of immune cells in all sorts of mucosal tissues and their diseases. Marianne joined the Department directed by Prof. Dr. Brigitte Leeners’ group at University Hospital of Zürich (USZ) in 2025 as a Junior Group Leader to understand the molecular and immunological mechanisms that contribute to the development of Benign Endometrial Diseases.
