Tommaso studied Biotechnology at the University of Bologna. He obtained his PhD at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (Barcelona), where he worked in the laboratory of Isabelle Vernos. Here, Tommaso studied the mechanism of cell division with a particular focus on the regulation of microtubules. For his postdoctoral work, he joined the laboratory of Melina Schuh at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences (Göttingen). He studied the causes of embryonic aneuploidy and established a method to image live bovine embryos quantitatively and at high resolution. His postdoctoral work provided an explanation for embryonic aneuploidy and a novel experimental system to address questions about mammalian embryogenesis. Tommaso started his lab in April 2023.
